What is Destruction Therapy?
Destruction Therapy is a coping technique in which people break and destroy various items in order release their emotions in a safe appropriate environment. Our “Rage Rooms” provide a secure and monitored arena for anyone experiencing the very normal feelings of anger, sadness, anxiety, depression, stress, who want to release them. Not to mention, it’s just pure fun!
Can hitting something actually relieve stress?
Yes! Science has proven that, the hitting of inanimate objects causes the brain to increase the production of endorphins, which are the neurotransmitters that create feel-good thoughts in your brain. Your body experiences similar reactions when exercising, which helps alleviate muscle tension that can accumulate from bottling up intense emotions.
Is this safe?
Yes. Our number one priority at Smash RX is safety. We provide all necessary safety gear for our clients. We also provide tools/materials that are not harmful to humans in any way.
Is this actual therapy?
It can be! Destruction therapy itself is an innovative therapeutic process based on the idea that taking out stress and anxiety on inanimate objects can be therapeutic and cathartic. Most importantly, when it comes to destructo-therapy, all negative emotion are directed towards inanimate objects. The use of a smash room highlights the immediate rewards of destruction and reduced tension. It offers a moment of adrenaline and relief. However, this will not replace traditional therapy. It is an added benefit and will produce favorable results but should not be used as a replacement for traditional therapy.
So where does traditional therapy come into play?
Smash RX is the first of its kind in Southern California. On top of our awesome recreational services which cater to individuals, couples, and groups; we offer Anger Management and Stress Management workshops that are facilitated by a Licensed Clinician. So when you’re done getting your emotions out in a physical way, you can get down to cultivating long-lasting, healthy coping skills.
This entails learning how to pause and reflect what causes your intense emotions rather than just catering to releases of them. This will require patience, practice, and commitment. Healthy anger supports strengthening our rational mind in being able to see the bigger picture rather than being held hostage by our emotional mind.
If I have court ordered anger management, does this count?
No! Unfortunately, our licensed services have not been registered through the court systems or programs. We will not be able to sign off on any paperwork. We still encourage you to stop by, because this may help you along your journey.
Anger can be healthy?
Yes! Healthy anger helps us establish healthy boundaries, address our inner peace and happiness, as well as monitor our likes and dislikes.
Can pregnant women participate?
No. We don’t allow mothers-to-be to participate in any of our physical activities out of our concerns for your own health and health of your baby. But, we do invite you to explore our therapy workshops, and would love to schedule a session for you to come back when your doctors approve.
I’ve just had major surgery, can I still participate?
No. Our number priority at Smash Rx is your safety. If you have recently had any major, mild, or minor surgery recently you should consult with your primary medical physician before booking an appointment. This is a rigorous activity and we do not want you to get hurt in any way.
Do you service Special Needs clientele?
Each case is different. Here at Smash Rx we understand that the term Special Needs encompasses a wide range of abilities. You and you alone understand the capabilities of your family members and friends. A release form is required to be signed before any participation. The responsibility will fall on you to supervise the special needs individuals in your party. Please call ahead and we will discuss if any accommodations can be made.
Can I bring my own stuff to smash?
